Voice

Voice students at Renaissance can learn classical voice, jazz and popular singing styles, Broadway or everything in between!

Students are able to perform in bi-annual recitals (with a provided accompanist).

Prospective students might also be interested in our Broadway camp!

Tracey Forster

Tracey has been teaching voice at Renaissance Music for five years.

Tracey began her professional vocal studies with Eleanor Calbes, an international Broadway and opera star, in Toronto, Ontario. After eight years of study with Eleanor, taking theatre programs in high school and graduating from Sheridan College, Tracey worked as a professional singer and actress with the Canadian Stage Company, Inner Stage Theatre Company, and Volstead Productions in Toronto. While at Sheridan College, she studied with Christina James, a performer with the Canadian Opera Company.

In addition, Tracey has recorded with The Runes, Heavy Water, Steve Fox, Salome Bey and others, and performed in such plays as Trojan Women, Come Back to the Five & Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean, and Curse of the Starving Class, such musicals as Nine, Annie, Babies, Gypsy, South Pacific, Oklahoma, and Best Little Whore House in Texas, and such operas as La Serva Padrona, Amahl & The Night Visitors, Don Giovanni and Carmen.

Tracey has directed shows in Kingston, such as Marriage is Murder, and Lost in Yonkers, and directed and starred in a production of Steel Magnolias.

Susan Shurrock

Sue Shurrock joined our teaching staff here at Renaissance in the fall of 2007. She has a Bachelor of Music Education from Robert Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, where she majored in Voice with an additional concentration in piano performance.

Sue also has a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University, and has twenty years experience teaching piano and voice. She also teaches theory and sings classical, gospel, bluegrass, blues, jazz and often performs, playing gigs with her family.

Colleen Kendall

Colleen Kendall
This is Colleen’s second year teaching at RSM.  She recently completed her Grade 10 RCM Voice with First Class Honours.  In 2006 and 2007 she received first place in her age group in the Kiwanis Music Festival.  She also spent four years in the award-winning Cantabile Choirs of Kingston under the direction of Dr. Mark Sirett.  She is an experienced performer in musical theatre, advancing to the Provincial Finals Competition in 2007.  Colleen continues to take vocal lessons, to both further her own knowledge and expand her teaching repertoire.

David McCallen

David McCallen has been a musician since the age of five. He has sung and played in five-star hotels, fine-dining restaurants, corner pubs, nightclubs and concerts. He is a singer, pianist, bandleader, music director, composer and music producer. His music has been heard on CBC television and radio, Global TV, radio and television commercials, film scores and JAZZ.FM, Canada's all-jazz radio station.
With his partner of 38 years, Sara Hamilton, he has recorded and produced two CDs of vocal jazz and the TV special "Sara Hamilton and David - Live".

The couple give seminars on the care and development of the voice, and David is the editor of Sara's widely acclaimed book "Your Voice".

Since coming to Kingston in 2008, Sara and David have played Blues at Brandees, swing dance music at the R.C.H.A. Club, Jazz at Montes in the Prince George Hotel and a 3-month summer gig Sundays on the patio of the Confederation Place Hotel.
